2007 Olive Harvest Week

Held four times, one week each, during four consecutive weeks 20 October - 17 November.

General description:

  • all meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner
  • lodging in a villa or apartment (depends on group size)
  • one day orientation and relaxation around the small town
  • pick olives for two full days
  • one day at pressing facility to see your olives pressed 
  • one half day wine tasting
  • one daytrip to Volterra
  • take home with you some of the oil that you help produce
  • includes standard Nostra Toscana services

Daily Schedule

Saturday

Arrive by your own transportation, or we can pick you up either at the Pisa airport (PSA) or at the Cecina railway station at no extra cost.  Welcoming refreshments, followed by a Tuscan dinner cooked by a local housewife ("casalinga").

Sunday

Breakfast, orientation discussion, followed by a half-mile walk to the local town to show you where things are.  Hearty lunch and dinner cooked by casalinga.

Monday

Breakfast, and then a short walk to begin picking olives.  Light Tuscan box lunch in the grove, then pick olives again until we begin to lose sunlight.  Return to lodging.  Dinner cooked by casalinga.


Tuesday

A repeat of Monday.


Wednesday

Breakfast, followed by a trip to the olive pressing facility.  An explanation of the process in given, along with a tour of the facility, and then the olives are pressed.  Transportation included.  Return to lodging.  Light lunch.  Dinner cooked by casalinga.

Thursday

Breakfast, then we are off to taste some wine at local wineries for a half day, with a light Tuscan lunch spread.  Afterwards it is time to rest, Tuscany style.  Transportation included.  Dinner cooked by casalinga.

Friday

Breakfast, after which we take a tour of Volterra, a nearby city often overlooked that rivals San Gimignano, though with fewer tourists.  Transportation included. Tuscan box lunch for the road.  Dinner cooked by casalinga.

Saturday

Breakfast, photos, departure.  Includes transportation to Pisa airport or Cecina station provided, if necessary, at no extra cost.
